It was only ever for a few moments, but behind the showering rain I could hear his soothing voice. It whispered cooling words in my ear and I would fall right asleep. The pit-patting against the window pane with my subconscious counting its hypnotic rhythm. It always felt like a dream and I dared not move lest I wake myself from it. The rain was a medium for me and my memories of him. I remember I would settle myself between him and mom whenever there was a storm brewing outside at night.
